A financial professional’s duty of care owed to their clients is not always created equally…
Let me repeat it again, the duty of care owed to clients by their own investment professionals is not uniform throughout the industry. I know what you’re thinking, what the *#%&* are you talking about, and what are you really saying? I’ll explain further, if you are an investor it may be possible that your financial professional does not owe you the strictest duty of care. This is known as the Fiduciary Standard of care. This is contrasted with a lesser duty of care owed to a client, known as Suitability.
And believe it or not, this very subtle difference can have a huge impact when it comes to dealing with your investment adviser’s objectivity, your confidence that your financial professional is always acting in your best interest, and many other factors that affect the professional relationship.
